What happens to your booking when the canyon closes

If you are travelling to Snowbird, Alta, Brighton or Solitude between roughly November and April, there is a real chance that on the day of your trip the road will be closed for a period. It is not unusual and it is not a sign that anything has gone wrong. It is how a canyon with avalanche terrain above a two-lane road is managed.

The question worth answering in advance is not whether it happens. It is what your chauffeur does when it does.

What we do

• We watch the closure information before we set off, not after. If the road is shut when your flight lands, you find out from us rather than from a queue of stationary cars.
• We contact you before we dispatch, and we hold, reroute or rebook rather than driving you to a closed gate to wait.
• You are not charged for a delay caused by a closure. Not a wait fee, not a re-dispatch fee, nothing.

If a closure means the trip cannot happen at all, you can cancel free of charge — and our normal window is 24 hours before pick-up, so a closure on the day is well inside a case we simply do not charge for.

What you can do

• Give us your flight number. If we are tracking the aircraft we already know when you land, and we can tell you about a closure before you have collected your bags.
• Build slack into the first day. A canyon closure can hold a road for a while, and a tight dinner reservation on arrival night is the plan most likely to be spoiled by it.
• Tell us if you are on a schedule that cannot move. It changes what we recommend.

Winter equipment

Both Cottonwood canyons enforce traction requirements in winter, and our vehicles are equipped to meet them. That is not a marketing line — it is the difference between being turned around at the bottom of the canyon and getting up it.
